Special projects
Lucas’ LOVES incorporating his creativity into YOUR programming themes and topics! Here are some of examples of what Lucas has done for other groups:
Ex. 1: Lucas and the Columbus Zoo
When programmers at Lakeside Chautaqua, a resort on Lake Erie, saw Lucas perform, they thought he’d be a great complement to their annual presentation from the Columbus Zoo. Everyone put their heads together and created a program that matched Lucas’ songs with the Zoo’s animal ambassadors. The program, seen by about 1000 visitors, was a roaring success and a repeat performance has already been scheduled!
Ex. 2: Pop-up Science and “BugTopia”
The Dallas Botanical Gardens called on Lucas to create something special for their fall insect exhibit called “Bugtopia.” Lucas created a mobile monarch exhibit where participants viewed eggs and caterpillars through microscopes, learned about monarch migrations and tagging, played “Bug Jeopardy,” took home milkweed seeds and cups of soil, did monarch origami, and, of course, learned even more in Lucas’ mini-concerts throughout the day. Lucas has since taken this to Waco ArtFest, Waco’s Cameron Park Zoo, and several other groups.
Ex. 3: Arts To Go Boxes and Bite-Size Science
During the Pandemic, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, in The Woodlands, Texas, created Arts-To-Go boxes for local schools featuring artist videos, craft ideas, and related books. The program was such a hit it has continued on.
They contacted Lucas in 2025 and he created two special episodes of Bite-Size Science to match their theme. It was such a success, he’s back in 2026 and his book, Going Down To Mexico, about monarch butterflies, is also included in the boxes.
Ex. 4: Program for shark exhibit
The Bob Bullock Museum hired Lucas to perform while they were hosting “Sharks,” a traveling exhibit by the American Museum of Natural History. He created a quiz-based program using information from the exhibit that delighted all ages. Representatives from the exhibit’s next stop at the Peoria Riverfront Museum were in attendance and they liked it so much, they brought Lucas up to perform there too!
Lucas has also created programs with Earth Day and holiday themes by request. What’s YOUR event theme?

Ex. 5: Multi-piece band for “KUTX Rock the Park”
When KUTX invited Lucas to be part of their “Rock the Park” series, he put together a three-piece ensemble with standup bass and mandolin accompaniment! He took a similar act to the 2025 Kerrville Folk Festival and he’ll be back in 2026.
Ex. 6: Song Commissions
Lucas has written songs for Brownsville’s Ocelot Conservation Day, two theme songs for the Texas State Library’s Summer Reading Programs, and, was inspired on his own to write two songs for his 2026 Tour in Alaska. What wildlife do YOU want celebrated in song?
